"Mobbing Impact on Individual Behaviors and Therapeutic Interventions: Risks of Addiction"
by M.G. Cassitto and S. Giordano

Abstract:  The impact of psychological violence on victims is well known, and includes alterations of their physical, emotional, psychological and behavioural wellness. From clinical experience, a rising of addictions among mobbing victims, previously normal users of alcohol, smoking and medications, was found. On the contrary, drug abuse was very rare, probably due to the median age of the patients usually above 40. In some cases, excessive psychoactive medications resulted from inadequate psychiatric diagnosis. Although some antidepressive therapy is often necessary, it is not advisable to set up long term therapies with sedatives, that can facilitate targeting the worker as a psychiatric patient in the eyes of job managers, of his family members and lastly of himself. Furthermore, the increasing dose needed to ensure relief of symptoms can establish a true mechanism of addiction that must be avoided.)
